Annual events

Norsewood people have a strong sense of community, and like to celebrate. Visitors are very welcome to attend and participate in these events.

Norway's National Day "Syttende mai"
Norway's National Day is celebrated in Norsewood on the Sunday closest to the 17th of May each year. Constitution Day, Norway's national day (17 May), marks the day when Norway became a free and independent nation. In Norway, it is a major day of celebration, equalled only by Christmas and New Year. Here in Norsewood we commemorate this day, which highlights our unique heritage. Most of our first settlers were Norwegians, who developed the land from the virgin forest. We acknowledge their dedication, sacrifices and determination against many odds. Constitution Day has become a focal point for our early settlers’ descendants, ex-nationals, others with a New Zealand interest, and locals. It is attended by people from all over New Zealand. In Norway the day is centred on children, and we do our best to involve them. Everyone is welcome to join us.
Market Day
Norsewood holds its annual Country Fair in upper Norsewood (in and around Coronation Street) on the last Sunday in November. Stalls frequently cover the main street and extend into the school grounds.
Norsewood Trollathalon
This traditional event is unique to Norsewood and is held annually as part of Tararua Outdoors. The event involves a run, wheelbarrow races, and Troll golf, and is fun for participants and spectators alike.
